Sparda-Bank Berlin supports the University Clinic for Hematology, Oncology and Cell Therapy Magdeburg

30.05.2024 -

The generous donation will enable Magdeburg University Hospital to ease the financial burden on its transplant patients in future. In order to minimize the risk of infection, these patients are largely isolated from the outside world during their four to six weeks of treatment. Telephone and television services are important means of breaking the isolation and improving the quality of their stay. These essential services can now be financed by the donation.

On May 30, 2024, Sparda-Bank Berlin presented a donation cheque for 6,000 euros to Professor Dr. med. Dimitrios Mougiakakos, Director of the Magdeburg University Clinic for Haematology, Oncology and Cell Therapy. The donation was handed over at the Sparda-Bank Berlin location in Magdeburg's City Carré.Professor Mougiakakos was delighted with the support and emphasized: "Thanks to the generous donation from Sparda-Bank Berlin, we can make our patients' stay more pleasant during their treatment and also relieve some of the financial burden on them during their healing process. We are very grateful for this valuable help."

Anja Kranich, Market Manager of Sparda Bank Berlin eG, said: "We are delighted that we can support such an important project at Magdeburg University Hospital with the donations from our customers. We have been focusing our social commitment on the topic of cancer since 2012 and would like to make a financial contribution to support those affected through the many projects in our business area."

Background

The transplant ward at Magdeburg University Hospital's Department of Haematology, Oncology and Cell Therapy treats around 90 patients a year who require a stem cell transplant or other modern cell therapies. The ward, which is accredited according to international standards, has five appropriately equipped rooms in which patients sometimes have to be isolated for several weeks during their treatment due to the increased risk of infection. The donation from Sparda-Bank Berlin will be used specifically to cover the patients' telephone and television costs during this time. These amount to around 6,000 euros per year.
